The Magic of Murph
One year ago today at 11:11 am, I took this photo of my sweet rabbit Murph sleeping in the Velvetback studio.
I had no idea it was the last photo I’d ever take of her.
Just a few days later, everything changed.
Murph suffered a stroke that left her mostly paralyzed on her left side. Our hearts sank as we rushed her to multiple emergency vet visits, where she received fluids and pain medication. We tried to feed her with syringes, nurturing her back to health and holding onto hope for a complete recovery. But when she stopped eating altogether, it became painfully clear that she was ready to let go.
After she passed over the rainbow bridge, we honored her beautiful spirit by adorning her body with fragrant red roses for love and protection, wrapped her in a beautiful burial cloth, and tucked her into the earth under the Maple tree in the backyard. With more roses (her favorite food of all time), amethyst, and citrine.
I write about the magic that was Murph in my upcoming book, Magic Flowers. It’s a three-part journey tying together love, magic, plants, and the otherworld. A series of short stories, among many, that I’m excited to share with you when this novel is complete.
