Hello! I’m Christine~
I’m the creator and founder of Velvetback, where my work as a writer, artist, designer, and maker helps people connect with plants and make meaning with their magic. My product line includes plant poetry oracle cards, my debut book, Magic Flowers, flower essences, and natural incense cones.
My work has a loyal fan base and has even reached luxury fashion designer Gabriela Hearst and Adventure Nannies founder Brandy Schultz. Velvetback products have been featured in Astral Box, Witchcraft Way, and Writual Planner subscription boxes, received over 575 glowing 5-star reviews on Etsy, and are sold in brick-and-mortar shops worldwide.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Portland State University, have studied Intuitive Plant Medicine with Asia Suler of One Willow Apothecaries, and continually hone my writing in workshops with Lambda Literary and Alternative Press award–winning author Ariel Gore.
ABOUT VELVETBACK
Velvetback was born on a warm day along a dirt trail among the trees. A simple statement, “I’d like to learn how to make incense out of natural things,” sparked a deep conversation about the rituals of working with our hands, the healing power of plants and nature, and a life that would allow me and my loved ones to spend as much time outdoors as possible.
I spent seven years illustrating plants and exploring the lush trails of Washington and Oregon, weaving their stories into poetry. The result? My debut book, Magic Flowers, and a stunning 60-card deck filled with plant wisdom, magic, and inspiration—ready to guide you with love and deep connection to nature.
Velvetback has always been a space for healing, constantly surprising me—transforming my inner landscape, deepening my curiosity, and strengthening my connections with myself and others.
